
The ceremony is a long and elaborate, the coronation regalia are used, known as the crown jewels, seen in the jewel house at the Tower of London. Vast amounts of Purbeck marble are hauled from southern England, artisans from Italy produce stunning floor mosaics, and English stonemasons toil year after year. The victor, William, is crowned in Westminster Abbey on Christmas Day 1066.ĭuring the 13th Century, King Henry III rebuilds the Abbey in the gothic style columns soar to unimaginable heights. King Edward the Confessor dies, the throne passes to King Harold, who loses at the famous Battle of Hastings to the previously promised William the Conqueror.
